WHAT IS TRAVEL SOCCER?
Travel soccer is a league, NWISL-Northwest Indiana Soccer League, comprised of 22 clubs throughout Northwest Indiana. NWISL is a recreational-plus league to help promote the game of soccer with the emphasis on teaching the game of soccer to young players while maintaining the fun of the game.
HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?
There are two seasons in travel soccer, Spring and Fall. Seasons are comprised of 8 weeks of games with practices beginning a few weeks before games start.
WHERE DO WE TRAVEL TO?
Teams will have 4 “home” games played at Hillman and 4 games throughout Northwest Indiana. Teams will travel as far west as Lansing, IL; as far east as LaPorte, IN; as far north as Hammond, IN; and as far south as Demotte, IN. Please keep in mind you will only travel against teams in your division. i.e. If your division plays Crown Point, Munster, Hammond and Dyer, you will “travel” once to those cities and they will “travel” once to Hillman.
WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Most games are played on Sunday. However, due to scheduling of referees some games will need to be played on Saturdays. All games will start after 12noon on Sundays and varying times on Saturdays.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRAVEL AND INHOUSE?
In-house is considered recreational soccer. Recreational soccer is used to teach players soccer skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in an environment where participation and fun are the focus, not competition. Recreational soccer is a learning program for youth players organized within the Hobart Soccer Club. All games are played at Hillman and games are on Saturdays with some weekday games depending on scheduling.
Recreation Plus (Rec Plus) assumes the Recreation Program philosophy of participation and fun, but also provides the opportunity for players to compete against other clubs in Rec Plus games and invitational tournaments. The Northwest Indiana Soccer League, not the Hobart Soccer Club sets the schedule and controls travel distances. Rec Plus is a possible transition step to competitive play, but also allows for new/beginner players. The Rec Plus Program features the flexibility and control of Recreation soccer but with a few more rules and procedures administered by SAY Soccer (NWISL parent organization and administrating body) and followed by NWISL.
HOW MUCH IS TRAVEL SOCCER?
Travel soccer is $115.00/season with a $60.00 uniform fee. Uniforms will only need to be purchased if the player needs a new uniform.
